Again this year:  block contest, gift basket raffle, and raffle quilt. 

 

 Above Raffle Quilt: The 2010 Quilt Block Contest winner, Kathy Olkowski, has graciously donated her quilt back to the Library.  Raffle procees will go to benefit "The Friends of the Library" Group.  Tickets are $1.00 or 6 for $5.00.

We would love to display your quilts. Please call the library, 357-7801, to tell us how many quilts you will bring. Each quilt must have a 3x5 card attached to the front right corner of the quilt with the maker’s name in large print, city, and the quilt’s name and comments about the quilt. Deliver your quilts to the library Monday, January 30, or Tues. Jan 31, 8-10 a.m, or call to make special arrangements. Please pick up your quilt on Wed. evening between 7:00-7:30. Tuesday:

·         10:15 am:        The Finishing Touch --Mona Taylor—Lots of ideas and inspiration for putting a creative label on your quilt.  A must!

·         11:00 am:        A Trunk Full –Madge Lindsay—See many of this long-time quilter’s collection of quilts, and you will be inspired!  A true feast for the eyes.

·         12:00noon:     Through the Lens…One Piece at a Time—Tyra Andrews—A professional photographer tells how to creatively photograph your quilts.  You will learn much!  (Tyra Andrews Photography)

·         1:00 pm:         Stringin’ Your Quilts Together – Dawn Ramirez- Inspiration for using your “strings”, lots of quilts to see. (The Pajama Quilter)

·         2:00 pm:          Oilcloth, Not Your Grandmother’s Tablecloth—Donna Clayson—Come learn this updated skill to create something beautiful.   

·         3:00 pm:          One Jelly Roll—Two Quilts– Linda Elison—Using Linlott’s book for a demo with fantastic results. (Spools and Spindles)

·         4:00 pm:          Take Care of That Machine– Marie Jantz—.She will tell you all the tips and tricks for keeping your machine in top shape, needles, threads, and more so you can keep sewing for a long time to come.  (Brady’s)

 

Wednesday:

·         10:15 am        Disappearing Blocks—Terry Anderson—Transforming simple blocks into intricate eye-catchers.  You will love these tricks. 

·         11:00 am         Good Things Come in Small Packages–Ilene Kendrick– Learn to make an easy bag in any size you can use for gifts, totes, zillions of purposes! 

·         12:00 noon      Another Trunk Full!–Sue Hawks—She will share many quilts (some have won awards) and also talk about what judges are looking for in a quilt.

·         1:00 pm           Pillow Talk–Des Mecham and Leann Price—Ideas and Inspiration for playing with fabric and decorating with pillows at the same time. So cute!

·         2:00 pm           A Valentine Surprise!–Valerie Balmforth– She will show you a fun surprise and have kits available for purchase.  (Ribbon Retreat)

·         3:00 pm           How Can I Keep My Border Smooth?– A panel of quilters will answers questions about quilting problems.  If they don’t know it, they will find out.   Put questions in the box anytime during the show, or come with your question. 

·         4:00 pm          Announcement of winners

·         7:00 pm          Pick up your quilts at this time.  Thanks. 

 

 

 

 

Charity Quilt Block Rules, 2012

Make 4 blocks for one raffle ticket to enter to win the basket of prizes.

Block is made up of 9 – 3 ½” squares, sewn into a nine patch.

The middle square should be a plain neutral. (cream or white)

The other 8 squares are scrappy.  Blocks measuring 9 ½” unfinished will be eligible for raffle

tickets.  Blocks will be put together for twin-size quilts for charity.  You may make as many

blocks as you desire.  Every 4 blocks will earn you one ticket. 

**Pin your name together with each set of 4 blocks, before turning them into the library.**

 

12 ½ Inch Block Contest

Blocks can be either pieced or appliquéd.  Make any pattern of block using as much or as little of the focus fabric as you desire. 
All other fabric colors used in the block must match the colors in the focus fabric.                                       

You may enter up to 2 blocks. 

The focus fabric may be purchased at the Library, $1.00 for a 3 ½ inch strip.

The block must measure 12 ½ inches square.

Safety pin a paper with your name and telephone number onto the back of each block.

Turn entries into the Library by 6:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012.  Winners are determined by popular vote.  There are cash prizes and all blocks will be entered in a random drawing to win the blocks.  Voting on the blocks will close at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 1, 2012.
